Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Brownie Mix Review. I can’t believe I had never reviewed this product before. It has to be one of the oldest Gluten Free products that Trader Joe’s has ever carried. You know it’s one of those things you pass every day walking through the aisles and never even think about it. I was in the baking section to get some flour for holiday baking and saw this and thought to myself, my kids would really love some chocolate chip brownies and who better to test them on then some teenagers that love everything chocolate. If they pass the teenager test, then they are good enough for everyone else, I say!

This mix is pretty straightforward. One egg, oil and water and mix it together and pour into an 8×8 baking pan. I used a Pyrex glass baking 8×8 dish for this with some Trader Joe’s spray canola oil to oil up the dish. I whisked everything together. I thought it seemed a little thick, but that’s the way brownie batter is. I spatulaed the batter into the dish and popped it into the oven and baked it for 30 minutes before I started doing the toothpick test. It took about 10 more minutes in my oven before it was done all the way through. I pulled it out and let it cool for a couple of hours before I started to cut into it.

First it smelled wonderfully chocolaty from the oven and looked exactly like every batch of brownies I ever made. I really couldn’t tell they didn’t have any wheat in them. The main ingredient in these is Rice Flour so we are good in the gluten free world. They may not be healthy for you but they don’t have any gluten in them!

When they were cool, I cut them into squares and pried them out with a spatula. They were pretty soft, maybe a tad bit softer than I like and it made it a bit difficult to get them out of the pan. I broke a couple into pieces on they way out, but did manage to get some decent squares out. The ones that came out whole looked and tasted like the most wonderfully chocolate brownies. The fact that they had chips in them was just icing on the cake, so to speak. They kids immediately descended on them after I started cutting them up and they were gone in short order. They all agree they were a tad soft but the flavor more than made up for that deficiency.

Hey, if you want a gluten free chocolate brownie, I can’t imagine not wanting to try these. They are good enough to serve to anyone that loves chocolate, whether they are gluten free or not. My kids don’t care and they loved them. I will be buying these from time to time so the kids have a treat like this. It was too easy to make it tasted excellent!
